The history of openMDX

The power of the OMG/MOF standard inspired Werner Froidevaux when he developed a prototype for a MOF-compliant interface repository service which was shown at the OMG meeting in Philadelphia in March 1999. Hence, the roots of openMDX go back to the 90s when MDA (Model Driven Architecture) was barely on the map.

The first incarnations of this open source MDA platform were known as SPICE and various large-scale applications (enterprise class) were developed by OMEX and taken into production over the years. The clean MDA approach (absolutely no model "pollution" with platform-specific UML stereotypes and tagged values) has also raised the interest of many MDA experts who have provided us with valuable input on various occasions.

To further the cause of MDA, OMEX donated openMDX to the open source community and published openMDX v1.0 with a BSD license on 28 January, 2004. The release of openMDX v1.0 into the public domain was an important milestone marking the beginning of a phase with rapid development and significant growth of the community.

The driving force behind openMDX

Werner Froidevaux has been the main driver behind the development of openMDX. He and his team at OMEX have provided the bulk of resources (brain power, development resources, etc.) to make openMDX what it is today: a revolutionary open source MDA platform with the potential to become the next big thing!

It is the hope of the openMDX team that lots of bright people join the effort to make openMDX the leading open source MDA platform. If you can contribute or want to co-operate . Any kind of support is appreciated.
